My Journey

UNSTOPPABLE

My name is Eric R. Watts—an author, speaker, and storyteller born in Brooklyn, New York. My life began under difficult circumstances. When I was six, my father was incarcerated, and I grew up navigating my mother’s struggles with substance abuse, mental illness, and abuse.

As a child, I battled anger, instability, and major challenges in school. I repeated the third grade and struggled with reading and writing, which shattered my confidence. Everything began to change when I discovered poetry and started writing for my mother. Creativity became my escape and my voice.

At 11, my mother suffered a mental breakdown, and I was placed with NYC child services, moving between family members while quietly battling depression. In fifth grade, I fell in love with storytelling—a gift that became my lifeline.

As a teenager, the weight of my past led to a suicide attempt. Waking up the next morning with a renewed sense of purpose changed everything. My faith grew stronger, and I began to believe my life had meaning beyond pain.

I later studied computer engineering in college and, after graduating, pursued writing more seriously. Drawing from my own life, I write stories of survival, redemption, and hope, along with a children’s book collection that celebrates imagination and joy.

Today, I am also a public speaker, sharing my story to inspire others to rise above their circumstances. After losing my mother to COVID-19, I made a promise to God to fully pursue my purpose. Through my work, I strive to be a voice for the unheard and a source of hope for those walking through dark moments. Then once freed from that prison you too will become unstoppable.
